You win some, you loose some. Considering my two previous ski trips to Val d’Isere ended up with a ride in a medical sled, I should be happy to walk away from this one unscathed.

Somehow, my luggage spent a lot more time travelling than I did. Air France managed to loose my luggage, then be unable to locate it for five days, then returned it to Aberdeen rather than to me in France. Thank god they don’t do anything as complex as fly planes or service complex technical machinery… Errrr…

Needless to say I’ll be avoiding AF when ever possible.

DHL weren’t much better at actually getting my bag to me once it had been located. Despite being an international logistics company that “knows no bounds”, they don’t work weekends in France, so my bag sat in a locked warehouse, just over an hours drive away, for the next three days. Give me strength.

So despite investing several thousand pounds in top line ski equipment, I was only allowed to enjoy it for four of my thirteen days. I then managed to snap a small part of my binding late on the second day of using my own gear, which left me having to “invest” in a ” spare” pair. I should by a lottery ticket.

Anyway, while I lost all confidence in both Air France and DHL, my folks and I were blessed with the most amazing two weeks of skiiing. The first week was predominately very cold, but clear blue skies… we got a major top up of snow in the middle, which was again followed by perfect sunny conditions, that remained below zero. The apartment we rented was also well above expectations,

I also have to recommend Favre Sports in the Val d’Isere village. They were friendly, helpful, and gave us a significant discount on both ski hire and the “spare” set of bindings.

So – know I have to suffer through a week of work, before I head of to Chamonix with Paul, Ben & Sal… yeah, yeah I know, poor me…
